The Banffshire Lieutenancy is asking local communities for ideas on a national memorial to honour the late Queen’s 70‑year reign and her deep connection to Scotland.   The Queen spent her honeymoon in Scotland and Balmoral had a very special place in her heart and Scotland in her affections.  The late Queen had an unparalleled sense of dedication to duty and to service, acting as patron to hundreds of Scottish charitiesand carrying out thousands of engagements during her reign.
Over £1m (each nation) has been made available to produce 'memorials'in all 4 (UK) nations.  They’re looking for suggestions on two simple questions:
  1.  What should the memorial be? A sculpture, tapestry, digital installation, something mobile that travels, or something permanent in one location? Materials could be stone, metal, resin, wood or even AI‑based.
  2. Where should it be located? Should it move around Scotland, or be placed somewhere visited by millions, such as Balmoral or Edinburgh?
Additionally, as part of the same project, the Lieutenancy is also seeking to capture personal recollections of the Queen’s official visits to Banffshire.  Were you present and are you willing to provide a verbal recollections which can be recorded and become part of a digital memorial?  They might have been at the harbour when she visited and remember a comment, what she was wearing, what was being discussed, a joke or whatfish was in a box as she went about her duties.  Or you may have met her out and about (Deeside / Palace of Holyrood House for elsewhere) and be prepared to share that memory for posterity.
